Ben also worked hard on our 60 second video and created it all by himself. Pretty good for a 15 year old! As well, Ben successfully engaged a bunch of outdoor organizations to promote the contest on either their Facebook pages or in emails or in votes for us. Thank you Adirondack Mountain Club, Lowa Boots, Marmot, Arcterynx, Mountain Khakis, and GoLite. And thank you to our local Rochester media for supporting us and helping to tell our story! Our work, friend, and family communities have been so supportive, too.
Interestingly, I met two receptionists in a building I entered yesterday and they recognized me from being on the WHAM TV morning show just hours earlier. We struck up a great conversation about the contest, about the outdoors, and even about one of the women's relatives who did a cancer climb of Kili a few years back. It was a joyous and inspiring conversation. I commented to them that one of the great things about this contest has been the widening of our circles and the tightening of them. We've brought more people into our lives through this and that is a darn great thing.
Contest or no contest, we've moved a few mountains and have many more in our future! Thank you Backpacker magazine, Whittaker Mountaineering, Eddie Bauer, Rainier Mounteering, and, specifically, Jonathan Dorn and Peter Whittaker for this opportunity.
