The weather wasn’t so great when things started out, but people still came! And as the evening wore on the skies got a little brighter and things got a bit drier. Thank you to everyone who came out despite the elements. And thank you all for your patience—our BBQ provider was about two hours late which put the food way behind schedule. Folks stood in line and waited without complaint. It was a helpless feeling for me and the NHS gang as there was little we could do at that point but wait for the chicken to cook through. Sigh.
Even though it was a little wet and the food was late, the music was phenomenal.
The NHS organized a line up of talent couldn’t have been better. From the HFL select chorus to soloists to small ensembles, each performer brightened up a gray night with their musical prowess. Watching and listening to them perform in our town’s gazebo was just the perfect setting for enjoying the moment and savoring gratitude. Smile.
Ben’s group closed the night. Ben (bass), Mason (keyboards), Tim (drums, vocals), and Steve (lead guitar, vocals) jammed Phish, Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, and others. They lit up my heart, made my toes tap, and prompted lots of smiles from me and others.
I’m waiting on the final amount raised from that night but it looks like we made about $1,200 or so, maybe a little more, for Jessie’s Fund. The hospital uses this fund to support those areas where it sees the greatest need so it helps a lot of kids and their families. Jessie’s mom, Baylie, and family were at the event, too. Together, we soaked in the great sounds and the good stuff that happens when communities come together to do something for someone else. To date, we've raised about $2,500 for Jessie's Fund. We hope to raise at least $5,000.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to those who supported this event. For those who couldn't be there but sent good vibes, thank you! We got 'em. Many blessings to you all.
(Here's a link to Ben and the guys playing some mighty fine Daft Punk from that night. If you don't have 10 minutes to spare then tune in at around 8 minutes and check 'em out! And remember...these boys will be playing again on August 10 at the Cottage. Please come!)
